Water Main Break Forces San Angelo Boil Water Notice

Water back on in many areas this afternoon after a water main break forced a boil water order for much of San Angelo. Crews worked through the night after a water main broke along Avenue K near the water treatment plant. About seventy-five percent of the city was affected, many areas with low or no water pressure. Concerns about safety of the water caused San Angelo officials to issue the boil-water order. That meant any water used for eating, drinking, cooking or ice-making should be boiled before use. It also meant a run on bottled water at San Angelo grocery and convenience stores, beginning last night when the order was issued. Many resident no doubt recalling a similar water main break in 2006 -- and yes, it was at Christmas-- that left parts of the city without water for a week. Typically, city officials say a boil-water notice last twenty-four hours but it can be extended if necessary.
