Governor Vetoes So-Called Amazon Bill

Governor Rick Perry vetoed a bill that was aimed at tightening the state’s rules on when online retailers must collect taxes on transactions.

USAF Tops in Blue Free Show at Coliseum Wednesday Night

The United States Air Force is presenting Tops in Blue, a free stage show with active duty airmen performing at the Coliseum tomorrow night at seven o’clock.

State Legislature Returns for Special Session, Schedules Votes for Later in Week

State lawmakers returned for a special session of the legislature, expected to take up measures on school funding and Medicaid. House and Senate leaders did submit a new proposal on congressional redistricting. The House adjourned after about ten minutes, with Speaker Joe Straus announcing he needed a special session schedule. They’ll be back in session tomorrow morning. The Senate has adjourned until Thursday afternoon.

San Angelo Woman Dies in Crash North of Menard, Two Others Seriously Injured

A 63 year old San Angelo woman is dead, two others have serious injuries, after a one vehicle crash on U-S 83, about 10 miles north of Menard. Police say Karen Phelps was a passenger in an SUV driven by 58 year old Vicky Parum. About 2, yesterday afternoon, police say Parum was towing a flatbed trailer, when she drove off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected to the left, swerving again to the right and rolling the vehicle. 59 year old Donald Parum was in the backseat and was also hurt. None of them were wearing seat belts.

San Angelo Police Find Man on Roof of Medical Arts Pharmacy After Burglary

San Angelo police arrested 22 year old Casey Johnson, Sunday, and he’s accused of burglary. Officers responded to an alarm about two am and found someone had broken into the Medical Arts Pharmacy on Pecos Street. Their search turned up Johnson, hiding on the roof of the building with medicine.

Fire Fund Gets a Big Matching Boost From Local Foundations

Volunteer Fire departments are getting a big boost, in the Concho Valley. The San Angelo Health Foundation and San Angelo Area Foundation created the Fire Fund, in April. Contributions from individuals and organizations topped 92-thousand dollars. Today, the Foundations announced the donations were matched. Different departments have different needs, ranging from tires, to truck repairs to fuel. So, a total of 184-thousand dollars will be distributed in amounts from one to ten thousand dollars.

Afternoon sports headlines

The San Angelo Colts will try again, hoping to right the ship. They lost their third game in a row last night, dropping a 4 to 2 decision at Edinburg. The Colts' runs came on back to back homers in the seventh inning by Landon Camp and Mark Ramos. San Angelo is now one and five on the season and continues the series against the Roadrunners tonight.

The Astros are at the Cubs again tonight after a Memorial Day win there yesterday. The Rangers won big over the Rays last night and play again tonight. It's an early start, 5:40 Central.

The NBA Finals get underway with Game One tonight in Miami; the Heat hosting the Dallas Maverics at 8 o'clock on ESPN. On a side note, American Airlines has their name on both arenas.

It's not official yet, but sources close to the situation say the Houston Rockets have hired Kevin McHale to be their new head coach. McHale starred for 15 seasons with the Boston Celtics and later served as general manager and then coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
