A state lawmaker from San Angelo suggests a possible solution to fund repairs of the state's deteriorating roads is to raise annual vehicle registration fees by 60 dollars. Representative Drew Darby said Wednesday that could amount to one-point-two billion dollars in additional road funding each year. Darby also said state officials should also re-examine permit fees for commercial vehicles using state roadways, inspection fees for semtrailers hauling from Mexico and study the road damage caused by overweight vehicles.
