The private managers of San Angelo's historic Santa Fe Golf Course are asking the city for permission to drill water wells on the property. Officials of Two Pro Management asking the city council for permission to drill three or four wells in the hope of finding enough water beneath the property to alleviate what they say is a major operating expense, their city water bill. Company officials saying their water bills have doubled since they took over management of the city-owned golf course two years ago. Santa Fe has yet to make a profit and the prolonged drought is a major reason why. The course is situated along the banks of the Concho River and the operators are being warned not to tap into the river basin for their water supplies when they drill.
