The San Angelo Independent School District Board will vote tonight on a new redistricting map. While many school districts in Texas have battled over various versions of redistricting maps, there's only one under consideration in San Angelo. The map addresses population growth in the district by making adjustments to the single member districts of the six board members elected by district. The map does not deal with school zones or boundaries for campuses. It's important that a vote come soon because the map must be reviewed and approved by the U-S Department of Justice -- along with redistricting maps from every other state -- and that could take up to ninety days.
