The latest in a series of budget cuts by the Department of Defense may cost up to 49 civilian workers at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene their jobs. The workers are being laid off in response to a directive from the Secretary of Defense to stop civilian growth above fiscal year 2010 levels. The Air Force reduced allocations at Dyess AFB by 49 positions, but that doesn’t directly translate into people. The number of civilians that may be affected is unknown at this time. No word so far.on whether such cuts in the civilian workforce will happen at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo.
