Okay, lead-foot, get ready to roll. For those Texans who feel the need for speed, there's about to be a lot more roadway on which to satisfy it. The Texas Department of Transportation is raising the speed limit on nearly fifteen hundred miles of Texas Interstate highways to 75 miles per hour. The speed limit changes span 60 Texas counties making it the largest conversion since a new law was passed last year. The Texas Legislature passed a bill that allows 75 mph speed limits on Texas highways providing speed studies show it can be done safely. Tom Green County is NOT among the sixty counties where faster speeds are being allowed. The roll-out of new speed limits will be indicated by new 75-mile-per-hour signs and there's the catch: The higher speeds aren't legal until the signs go up. Motorists must continue to travel at the posted speed until new signs are installed.
