Government Grant scam

San Angelo residents are reporting a new phone scam.  You get a call, usually from a Washington DC area code, and the callers identify themselves as a calling from the U.S. Government Grant Office. They offer you a grant for several thousand dollars, because your community was selected as one of 15 most desirable places to live. The caller gives you an approval code number to verify the grant before asking you for a transfer fee of 180 dollars.  It sounds too good to be true and it is: the government does not contact people to offer them money or charge a fee.
