San Angelo's own Shannon Medical Center has received the 2011 Trauma Center Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services. The award was presented in Austin at the annual EMS Conference. It honors a designated trauma facility in Texas that has demonstrated leadership and high standards in implementing injury prevention programs and providing trauma patient care to the citizens and visitors of Texas. Shannon is one of 265 designated trauma facilities in the state.
