County, City To Share Costs of Inmate Work Camp

Tom Green County is entering into an agreement with San Angelo to share costs of running the state inmate work camp. County Commissioners approving a plan that would have the city contribute about half the fourteen thousand dollar cost of running the facility, which is one of the few of its kind left in Texas. The inmate camp, called the San Angelo Wilderness Camp, shares its volunteer inmate labor with a broad group of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and Concho Christmas Celebration. The facility, which houses about 40 inmates, began in Carlsbad in 1995, and it moved to San Angelo in 2008.
