Afternoon sports headlines

The NFL has released the schedule for the fall, despite the labor issues that threaten the season. The Cowboys will start the season on the road, at the Jets and at the 49ers. The traditional Thanksgiving Day game will be against the Dolphins. The Texans open up with the Colts at home September 11.

The Mavericks are up on the Trailblazers two games to none in their NBA playoff series. The Spurs try to avenge a game one loss to the Grizzlies tonight in San Antonio. After this, the series will move to Memphis.

The Astros beat the Mets yesterday and have them again tonight. The Rangers will try again against the Angels after losing last night 15-4. That series is tied 1-1.

Tomorrow afternoon, at the Sonora vs. Wall baseball game, Wall Middle School’s Leadership group, CORE, will give free snow cones and popcorn to families that donate a case of water. All donations will be given to local firemen battling the surrounding fires. The game starts tomorrow afternoon at 2:30.
