Afternoon sports headlines

The Angelo State men's basketball got its first signee today in Dakota Rawls, one of the top players in the region. Rawls helped lead the Bronte Longhorns to back to back State Championship appearances and averaged more than 20 points per game.

Former Angelo State linebacker Tyrell McCrea is going to play arena football. He's signed a contract with the New Orleans Voodoo and will join the team as a two-way player at linebacker and fullback.

Lakeview has three track and field athletes that qualified for the regional meet. Long distance runner James Christensen qualified in the 1600 and the 3200. Robert Sanchez will run the 800, and Dakota Bailey from the Maidens team will pole vault. The regional meet is May 3 and 4 in Abiliene.

In the NBA playoffs this weekend, the #1 seeded Spurs will play Memphis at home Sunday. The Mavericks will host the Trailblazers Saturday night.
