Chase and collision

A man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly leading San Angelo police on a brief chase and causing a chain-reaction collision. Officers responded to reports of someone causing problems in the 1200 block of Tres Rio to find out that person had left in a Ford pickup. Police say the vehicle was located traveling south on Bell Street and the driver, 41-year-old Desmond Dixon, refused to stop. He led officers on a low-speed chase that got a bit faster when he headed north on Chadbourne. Spike strips were deployed and Dixon continued to drive with flattened tires, running several downtown traffic lights and eventually colliding with a vehicle at the Harris Avenue intersection, resulting in a chain reaction involving a total of three vehicles. Police say Dixon tried to walk away from the scene but was taken into custody following a brief struggle and booked on several charges.
