Car thief apprehended

San Angelo police were able to apprehend a suspected car thief following a brief chase last Friday night. 19-year-old James Garza of San Angelo allegedly stole a car that had been left running at the Shell station at One North Main Street while the owner used a pay phone. Police say that as Garza attempted to speed away, he lost control of the 2006 Chevy Malibu, hitting a curb in the 23-hundred block of North Main. He then allegedly fled on foot but was chased by a neighbor who saw the crash until police arrived and found Garza hiding under a trash can behind a residence. He was arrested on several charges and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
