House fire in San Angelo extinguished without injuries

No injuries were reported in a house fire the San Angelo Fire Department responded to shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Mocking Bird Lane.

"A passerby ... did the good Samaritan thing and called it in," said Battalion Chief Ricky Long.

A three-engine battalion responded and put out the fire, which was mainly on the outside of the house. Long said the blaze started on the back porch, which had a wooden deck and concrete path.

There was some smoke damage to the home's interior, and the heat broke the sliding glass door, Long said. Minimal damage was done in the kitchen. No people were in the house at the time of the fire.

Homeowner Earl Raynor lives there with his wife and three children and said he was traveling to Grape Creek when the fire started.

"I'm in shock right now," Raynor said Sunday. "I don't know where to begin."

Raynor said his son's new puppy was in the house at the time of the fire.

"They couldn't find him," Raynor said.

Fire Inspector Thomas Truett is investigating the fire. He determined a trash can in the back of the house was the point of origin, but has yet to determine the cause.
