New Judge In FLDS Trials

A change is being made in the judge presiding over the bigamy trial of a former assistant to polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs. The trials so far have been presided over by District Judge Barbara Walther, primarily at the Tom Green County Courthouse in San Angelo. The upcoming trial of 71-year-old Wendell Neilsen has been moved by Walther to Midland and now, Walther has been replaced as presiding judge. The move comes from the head judge of the seventh Judicial District but there’s been no explanation as to why it’s being made now. The new judge in the trial will be Senior State District Judge Robert Moore of Big Spring. Neilsen is the former President of the F-L-D-S Church. He’s accused of marrying three women in 2005.
