Counterfeit money

San Angelo Police are warning local businesses that counterfeit currency has been circulating in the area recently. Earlier this month, officers seized counterfeit currency and equipment used in the counterfeiting process from a local motel. 28-year-old Adam Alvarez of Midland was arrested. Retailers are warned to carefully inspect currency and not rely solely on the use of counterfeit money detector pens. In this recent case, the counterfeit bills being passed were made from actual currency where the numbers depicting the bill's denomination had been altered. If you suspect you have received fake money, contact San Angelo police.
