On Wednesday evening, a San Angelo police officer using an Automatic License Plate Reader received an alert indicating a vehicle near Bell Street and Paint Rock Road was stolen. The officer radioed for backup and followed the 1996 Chevy S10 pickup to a parking lot in the 100 block of Paint Rock Road. The driver, later identified as 44-year-old David Torres of Abilene and a 51-year-old female passenger were taken into custody at gunpoint. Torres was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident. The passenger has not been charged and was released at the scene.
