Afternoon sports headlines

The Central High School boys soccer team may not have made the playoffs this season, but the Bobcats' junior forward, Preston Arteaga, was named the District 3-5A MVP. Two other Central players - defender Ray Obena and midfielder Anthony Graham - who earned first-team honors. Midfielder Ruben Dominguez and goalkeeper Bryan Syler were named to the second team.

There's only a week left in the NBA regular season, and the Dallas Mavericks aren't looking like some teams in playoff form. A loss last night to the Nuggets dropped the Mavericks close to fourth place. The Oklahoma Thunder are only a game behind them. The Spurs have clinched home court advantage throughout the playoffs in the Western Conference. The Rockets are on the verge of being eliminated.

The Texas Rangers on the other hand have started the season on fire, at 6-0, sweeping both the Red Sox and the Mariners. Today is a day off for the Rangers before hitting the road tomorrow to start a series in Baltimore. The Houston Astros are playing Cincinnati this afternoon before returning home to face the Marlins this weekend.
