TxDot reports State Highway 158 is now open, between 2059 in Coke City to U-S 87 in Sterling City. It was closed, for a time, due to firefighting efforts.
Around 400 firefighters were called to the Dos Amigos Ranch, south of State Highway 158, west of Robert Lee, yesterday afternoon. A wildfire broke out and quickly burned through 3500 acres of grassland. Crews saved several structures. Several gas well sites and one Silver gas plant were shut down for safety’s sake. The Texas Forest Service used an air attack to drop chemicals on the blaze, because it was hard for firefighters on the ground to reach some spots in the hills. The blaze has now burned 6000 acres and the Texas Forest Service says it’s 20 percent contained.
