Red Arroyo Bike Trail Gets Funding

The City of San Angelo is getting a three point two million dollar grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for a new bike path. It’s a three point seven mile concrete trail through the Red Arroyo, which will connect Knickerbocker Road to Sherwood Way. City Council members approved accepting the grant money, even though they hadn’t earmarked the 20 percent in local matching funds required. Upon recommendation by city staff members, they agreed to reallocate up to 500-thousand dollars from the city stormwater department budget and around 300-thousand dollars from half cent sales dollars that was to be used for South Concho Park.
