Afternoon sports headlines

The San Angelo Colts have added some power to their lineup, signing first baseman-outfielder Daryl Jones for the 2011 season. Jones, a former draft choice of the San Diego Padres, has 50 career home runs.

The Angelo State baseball team hasn't been on a roll like this in three years. With Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of Henderson State, the Rams now have won nine games in row, their longest winning streak since they won nine straight during the 2008 season. Friday the Rams will play two against No. 13 St. Mary's to begin a stretch of nine games in eight days. The Rattlers are 18-5 this season.

A pair of Rams were honored by the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday. Second baseman Zach Cohen was named the LSC Hitter of the Week while James Conlee was named the LSC Pitcher of the Week.

The Rangers play the Padres tonight and the Astros have the Marlins tomorrow at noon.
