Afternoon sports headlines

The Lake View boys soccer team won their playoff opener yesterday in Lubbock, beating Canyon Randall 2-0. Lake View moves on to the sectional round to face Amarillo Caprock on Friday. A chance for revenge, since Caprock knocked the Chiefs out of the playoffs last year.

The Lake View girls soccer team couldn't get past Canyon High, and they lost in Lubbock 3-0. Canyon High scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the game.

Another honor for an Angelo State softball player. The Belles' Claire Molina has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher of the Week.

Abilene Christian introduced a new head basketball coach today. He's Grant McCasland, who spent the last two years as head coach at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

Today is the deadline for nominations for the Bobcat Athletic Hall of Fame. You can go to www.bobcathalloffame.com for the nomination form. The induction is March 17, 2012.
