Afternoon sports headlines

Lakeview has named a new head football coach. At a special meeting today at the San Angelo School District offices, the administration named Doug Kuhlmann as the new coach. He was an Angelo State Quarterback during their 1978 National Title season, and worked at Lakeview about 30 years ago as the offensive coordinator.

The San Angelo Colts announced that they will first make individual tickets available on-line Friday April 1. Then beginning Friday April 15 regular tickets will also be available for the upcoming 2011 Colts season. There are a few fireworks nights you may want to check out. All games are at Foster Field, and opening day is May 25.

Angelo State has dropped to 2nd, behind Alabama Huntsville, in the latest National Coaches Poll for NCAA Division II Softball. Midwestern State is ranked 3rd.

It's opening day for Major League Baseball with just a few teams in action. The Rangers kick off their season at home tomorrow against Boston, and the Astros are on the road against the Phillies.
