Afternoon sports headlines

A new head football coach could be named at Lakeview High School as soon as next week. The closing date on the job listing is this Friday, and the school says it hopes to have a recommendation for the board Monday night. The Standard Times reports they're interviewing 12 applicants.

It's turning into a roller-coaster season for the Angelo State baseball teams. At Fort Worth on Tuesday, ASU dropped a doubleheader to Southern Arkansas, 12-nothing and 11 to 9. After winning 10 games in a row, the Rams are now on a five-game losing streak. They'll try to get things going in the right direction Friday at home against Tarleton State.

The Texas Rangers are back in action today after a day off yesterday and a rainout Monday. They're playing the Diamondbacks in Arizona. The Astros have the Pirates today and the Rays tomorrow. Opening Day is just over a week away.
