Afternoon sports headlines

The state track and field championships are coming up May 13th and 14th in Austin and several local high schools will be represented. After regional meets finished up Tuesday, Sonora and Wall from Region 1-double-A will be sending students and, from Region Two-1A, Water Valley is sending three students.

The Rangers may get Josh Hamilton back soon. He's scheduled to start hitting off a tee tody, the first step in his recovery from a broken right arm. The Rangers lost to Seattle last night 4-3 and will play again tonight.

The Astros have another game with the Reds tonight after winning last night 10-4. That included a six run 4th inning.

Tonight is Game 2 between the Mavs and Lakers in Los Angeles. The Mavericks took game one on two late free throws by Dirk Nowitzki, winning by two. If the Mavs win tonight, it would be a commanding lead as the series heads back to Dallas.
