Afternoon Sports headlines

It's official: Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan is now the controlling owner of the Texas Rangers. Major League Baseball gave its approval to Ryan on Thursday. Tonight, the Rangers start an important series with the division rival Angels at home. The Astros meanwhile, host the Mets.

Wall High School has a new head girls basketball coach. Tate Lombard, former head coach at Christoval, has been an assistant at Stephenville the last two years. Lombard will take over for Jeremy Williams, who will become Wall's Athletic Director.

The Eastern Conference finals are set - the Bulls and Heat start their series Sunday. The Mavericks await the winner of the Oklahoma City Thunder/Memphis Grizzlies series which could end tonight with a Thunder win.

And don't forget, you have the chance to make the San Angelo Colts team. Tryouts are tomorrow morning. Angelo State baseball will hold open tryouts for current or future student-athletes on June 7.
