San Angelo ISD Trustees Consider Reducing Homestead Exemption

The San Angelo Independent School District Trustees are considering a reduction or elimination of the local optional homestead exemption. They’re still waiting to hear how much money is coming in from the state for the next school year, so they know how much of a budget shortfall they’re dealing with. It’s projected to be between three and 13 million dollars. Reducing the exemption from 20 to ten percent would generate about 774-thousand dollars and impact 21-thousand homeowners. They have until July 1st to decide.
