Power blackout trend

Rolling power blackouts could become a way of life in Texas. The operator of the state's power grid says its reserve margin could drop below seven percent by 2015. ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, says it tries to maintain a margin of almost 14 percent, but even that wasn't enough to prevent rolling blackouts in last winter and several threats of blackouts last summer. The organization says more gas and wind power will come online, but increased demand could lead to a shortage of electricity in Texas within the next ten years.
