Stalking Arrest One Of First Under New Statute

A San Angelo man whose former girlfriend said he was stalking her has now been arrested. Police say 40-year-old Michael Jackson is being charged with stalking after a lengthy series of complaints and investigations going back over a year. It's one of the first stalking arrests since Texas law was changed last year, moving stalking from a misdemeanor with a four-thousand-dollar fine to a third-degree felony punishable by up to ten years in prison and a 10-thousand-dollar fine. Jackson cited for several instances of alleged violence and threats against his ex-girlfriend and her daughter going back to March, 2011.
