Budget Cuts Affect Education Association

Thousands of state government layoffs are expected over the next few weeks and educators will be among them. The Texas Education Association says it will lay off 178 of its employees on the way to a 36 percent cut in its operations budget. The agency oversees education of pre-kindergartners through high school seniors in the Concho Valley and across Texas. The cuts coming following the Legislature's move to cut 15-point-two billion dollars in spending rather than raise taxes or dip into the state's rainy day fund.
