Record Farm Losses Expected for State

And the weather could be causing other records to fall. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service says crop and livestock losses in the state could be the worst ever. The previous single year record was 4.1 billion in 2006. About 70 percent of Texas rangeland and pastures are classified in very poor condition, which means there is complete or near complete crop failure or no food for grazing. Adding to the problem, while farmers are losing a lot, the corn and other products grown here are worth more this year, due to strong global demand and tight supplies.
