Heavy Trucks Damage Tom Green Roads

The long-simmering issue of what to do about heavy trucks tearing up Tom Green County's roads may be going to the state. The County Court of Commissioners is talking about asking for a special session of the Texas Transportation Commission and the Legislative Budget Board to work out ways of providing money to county's whose roads are impacted by heavy trucks servicing the energy industry. While counties now receive some money from truck permits, it isn't nearly enough to repair all the damage caused by trucks hauling oil field machinery and other heavy loads. Property tax funds must be used in addition and county officials say they want some state help to try to avoid that.
