Man swallows object during arrest

Just after 9 am Thursday morning Police stopped a pickup on North Chadbourne for a tail light out and no front license plate. After a traffic investigation, the thirty-nine year old Hispanic male driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license. A brief struggle ensued, and as officers attempted to gain control, he threw an object to the ground and began fighting with the officers and later swallowed the object believed to be a controlled substance. The man then began having trouble breathing and the officers initiated resuscitative efforts and called for medical assistance. He was then taken to Shannon by ambulance. His condition was unknown yesterday afternoon and his identity was not being released.
