Council Approves Yard Parking Ban

A divided San Angelo City Council has made it official: you can't park in your yard. Although the ordinance won't go into effect for a year, some Councilman say it should never have happened because it deprives many people of anywhere safe to park their cars. Others argued that the ordinance will protect property values and prevent what they called "trashing" of some neighborhoods. The vote was five to two in favor. The no-yard-parking law does not apply in certain circumstances. Those include vehicles with handicap stickers and yards that are hidden from the street by fences that are at least six feet high, among other exemptions.
