Council Wants More Budget Cuts

After three hours of budget wrangling yesterday the message from the San Angelo City Council to city staffers was clear: be more creative and keep on cutting expenses. No action was taken at the special budget workshop. Right now there's a projected one-point-seventy-eight-million-dollar budget deficit and Council members say they need to see more options for trimming expenses throughout city government. The Council yesterday discussing everything from paying less for electricity for Christmas lights to cutting some senior meal programs to cutting some funding for the Tom Green County Crisis Intervention Unit. At the end of the day, no decisions were made and city staff is now back to putting a microscope to expenses.
