Wild Fires Far Fewer This Summer

At this time last summer it seemed every story we reported concerned wild fires. This year, at least so far, it's a much different story. While drought conditions continue to create significant fire dangers all across the state, the number of acres actually burned is minimal. The Texas Forest Service says around 58-thousand acres have been charred by wild fires so far this summer. That seems like a lot but compare it to last year. Then, nearly four million acres of Texas were claimed by fires, an all-time record. In terms of homes destroyed by wild fires: fifteen this year, nearly three thousand last summer. Still plenty of fire season ahead, though so as always, be careful and be watchful.
