Utility scam warning

The Texas attorney general's office is warning of a new identity theft scam that is sweeping the country. It claims that Americans can get federal financial assistance to help cover the cost of their utility bills. In order to take advantage of the purported program, utility customers are told they must provide their Social Security and bank routing numbers. The attorney general's office advises you to never give out that kind of personal information to anyone who requests it during an unsolicited phone call or in-home visit.
