Microburst at Mathis Field

The National Weather Service says Mathis Field was hit Monday by a phenomenon called a microburst. That's when rain from a thunderstorm collides with a dry air mass and is then quickly pushed down toward the ground. Those downward wind gusts blew the doors off a city-owned hangar and broke off tree limbs. However, there were no reports of damage to any airplanes.
