San Angelo police say one of their officers was hit in the head by man suspected of shoplifting at the northside Wal-Mart. Early Thursday morning, 28-yer-old Visente Mendez the Third of San Angelo had allegedly been seen by Wal-Mart staff cutting open boxed merchandise and hiding the items in his clothing. Some of those items fell out of his clothes during the scuffle with the officer, who did not require medical attention. Mendez was arrested and charged with robbery and assault on a public servant.
