San Angelo Democrats leader has beef with polling change

As early voting in San Angelo finishes today, the leader of the local Democratic party says the city and the county elections administrator have established an illegal election. Linda Shoemaker has alleged a violation of the Voting Rights Act, accusing officials of suppressing voter turnout. She claims voters in Commissioner Precinct One, sub precinct one-twenty-four cannot vote early in a former polling place at Martin Luther King Drive and West Eighteenth Street. Instead, they have to vote at River Place Apartments at Mayse and South Irene streets. Also, voters in that subprecinct have to travel outside their neighborhood to vote Saturday at Baptist Memorials Center on North Main Street.
