Water main breaks in central San Angelo

A 14-inch water main broke about 3 a.m. today, affecting water service to residences and businesses in the area of 9th and Irving streets, the city of San Angelo said in a news release.

Crews were working to fix the break, but it was not known when repairs will be complete.

Flooding was visible in the area and water could be seen surging out of the ground. Motorists were being urged to avoid the area because the intersection and surrounding streets are flooded.

A city official said businesses along North Chadbourne Street from Houston Harte Expressway to 14th Street are likely to be affected by the water break.
