Truck thief arrested

A 52 year-old El Paso man who stole a truck in San Angelo was located and arrested Wednesday night in Water Valley. The owner of the vehicle told police that he had stopped at the Murphy's gas station in front of the Walmart Supercenter on West 29th to purchase items and left his keys inside his truck. When he exited the store, he watched a man enter his truck and drive off. Shortly after alerting regional law enforcement agencies, San Angelo Public Safety Communications was notified that deputies from the DPS and the Sterling County Sheriff's Office were involved in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect. The stolen truck was disabled by spike strips a few miles short of Garden City. Police say the suspect, later identified as 52-year-old Refugio Padilla, then tried to run from the truck. After allegedly resisting his arrest, Padilla was finally taken into custody and transported back to San Angelo.
