Water board OKs extra wells plan

The San Angelo Water Advisory Board has approved the city council's idea of expanding the Hickory Aquifer well field. If the council gives its blessing a week from today, then construction of five more water wells and one alternate well can proceed. The field above the aquifer near Melvin already has nine wells that can pump six-million galons of water daily. The expansion can increase that number to nine-million. The pipeline can handle ten-point-seven. The addition may cost seven-point-five-seven-million dollars. The Standard Times reports water utilities director Ricky Dickson saying the cost of sinking the nine wells under the orginla bid came in below estimates, so the total project cost falls withing the Texas Water Development Board loan for the pipeline.
