No Property Tax Hike In Sight

There will be no increase in San Angelo property taxes for at least a year. The City Council has taken a vote that, while it allows the tax rate to be reduced, prohibits any increase. With that vote, the tax rate will remain at or below the current 78-point-six cents per hundred dollars valuation. The first hearing on the proposed tax levy will come when the city budget ordinance is introduced on August 21st. The final tax levy won't be approved until September 18th. Some Council members and city staff saying the rate may actually drop by about half a cent.
